Sieg Wagner worked as a luthier in Antwerp and repairing instruments and bows in the early part of the twentieth century. He was commissioned to restore many of the instruments in the Antwerp museum after World War II.
After emigrating to Canada in the early 1950's he became a well loved and respected repairman for many players in the Toronto Symphony. He moved to Muskoka in the 1960's and maintained a large workshop and farm. This viola was begun in Antwerp and the top, ribs and back, given to Stephen McClellan. It was completed after his death by Hratch Tchalkouchian in 2000.
